Wellness Coaching is successfully based on health behavior change models of health education, positive psychology, and life and executive coaching principles. Doctors across the country are promoting wellness coaching as an effective method for making lasting changes to your mental and physical health. Many insurance plans are even offering to help with payment for wellness coaching as a means of disease prevention and health maintenance.
Wellness Coaching involves creating a vision of wellness, realizing the strengths you bring to get yourself there, identifying obstacles that might get in the way and setting up strategies for overcoming those obstacles. Once these components are indentified we set up long-term (3 month) and short-term (weekly) goals to help you realize your vision.
Wellness Coaching is typically done over the phone using “teleconferencing” which allows both coach and client the most flexibility and coaching presence. Coaching relationships typically last a minimum of three months to allow you a sufficient time-frame to choose, learn, and maintain healthy behaviors that will last a lifetime. After a longer initial session to create your vision and 3-month goals, coaching takes place once a week to check in with your progress on your goals and create the next steps to take.
